OVERVIEW
THE WORLD’S MOST INNOVATIVE CHOPPER
New Holland has been at the forefront of the forage harvesting world since it introduced its first Self-Propelled Forage Harvester in 1961. The new FR Forage Cruiser line follows in its predecessor’s footsteps by showcasing more than 50 years of innovations. Decorated for its performance, the FR Forage Harvester has received numerous awards for its developments including gold medals for its advanced precision farming technology and a Machine of the Year award from Agritechnica.
These units feature the largest crop channel and cutting components of any forage harvester to date. The only thing that will stop an FR Forage Harvester is the end of the field. The FR can cut in a variety of different conditions and have the ability to process up to twelve rows of corn at the a time. We invite you to take a look around at all that the FR Forage Cruiser has to offer. We think you will be pleasantly surprised. We know our customers are. |
DRIVETRAIN SUPER-TIGHT TURNING The FR’s compact design and impressive 55° steering angle give it a turning circle of only 20’. This means smaller headlands for less time turning and more time harvesting. The tapered rear design and short overhang ensures the FR follows its rear wheels closely, making maneuvering and parking easier and safer. |
MECHANICAL 4WD
The 4WD option on the Forage Cruiser® line is a fully mechanical New Holland exclusive—and very similar in design to the one used on FWA tractors. It is powered from the central gearbox by a driveshaft, and is engaged via a hydraulic clutch from the cab. The highly efficient mechanical system offers superior durability, lower complexity, and better pulling performance when compared to the hydrostatic assist systems used on other choppers. The FR can power through even the harshest conditions without risk of stalling or sticking. |
LONG AND STABLE
The FR’s ultra-long 126” wheelbase ensures ultimate stability in the field and on the road. The low rearward placement of the engine provides lots of effective counterweight to improve stability on hills and during transport. Up to four weight slabs can be added under the bumper to better balance large corn heads if needed. High ground clearance, up to 5.5” more than the competition, reduces grounding and dragging when working in muddy field conditions. Standard differential lock helps to keep you going in really tough wet spots. |
ADJUSTABLE REAR AXLE
Two-wheel drive FR units feature a heavy-duty, adjustable steering axle. The double box walled design allows tread width adjustments from 104” to 134” in 6” increments to match row widths if desired. |
PREMIUM TIRE OFFERING
The FR can be specified with three drive tire choices to suit your individual needs. High-quality Michelin tires are available in 710/75R34 or 900/60R32 sizes. The large in-field footprint provides good load capacity, low compaction, and enhanced traction. Dual drive tires can also be fitted— the 520/84R42 size means great traction and stability with improved floatation. |
INNOVATIONS - Variflow™ Accelerator and Crop Processor INDUSTRY EXCLUSIVE VARIFLOW™ SYSTEM This innovative system makes preparing your forage harvester for crop type changes even easier. The Variflow™ system allows an operator to quickly pivot the crop processor out of the feed channel and moves the accelerator closer to the cutterhead. This means greater suction for sticky grass crops while reducing the horsepower required. And the best part; you don’t have to remove the crop processor! A hand pump located inside the large service area hydraulically swings the crop processor out of the crop flow- no tools are needed. It takes just two minutes to release a locking pin and use the pump to smoothly rotate the processor out of the crop flow. |
TACKLE TOUGH CROPS WITHOUT REDUCING SPEED
The extra-wide Variflow™ accelerator propels even tough crops with maximum efficiency. The large crop processor ensures you end up with high-quality feed. And when you remove the crop processor to chop grass, the patented Variflow™ system moves the accelerator moves closer to the cutterhead to improve crop flow and reduce power consumption. A grass chute is put into place above the accelerator. Putting the processor back is just as easy. |
LARGE CROP PROCESSOR
With 10-inch rolls that are 30 inches wide, the large crop processor offers more than enough capacity to handle the entire crop flow delivered through the machine. A sawtooth pattern on the rolls provides aggressive processing to guarantee all kernels get cracked. Hardened 99-tooth rolls provide long life. Running at a 22% standard speed difference guarantees perfectly processed crop. From the driver's seat, the roll gap can be adjusted on the go, from 1 to 10 mm. Heavy springs keep constant pressure on the crop. A single, 6-banded belt keeps the processor rolls running at the perfect speed. |
HEAVY DUTY CP OPTION
The optional HD crop processor matches well with the larger throughput of the bigger FR models. It features hardened chrome rolls with a staggered tooth pattern- 99 on the front roll and 126 on the rear roll. The rolls run at a 30% speed differential, allowing a wider gap with no compromise in kernel cracking. |
WIDEST SPOUT ON THE MARKET
You'll have no capacity problems discharging the chopped crop with FR Forage Cruisers. The 13-inch-wide spout and 210 degrees of spout rotation allow for fast, precise crop discharge. Large, flip-open spout covers offer easy service of liners. Corn and grass flippers are also available. |
INNOVATIONS - Feedroll & Cutterhead WIDEST FEEDROLL AND CUTTERHEAD IN THE BUSINESS The FR range boasts of the industry’s widest feedrolls, widest spout, and largest cutterhead. The massive 34-inch-wide, 28-inch-diameter cutterhead uses a chevron pattern of knives to chop cleanly and quickly. The drum is offered in 2 by 8 and 2 by 12 knife configurations to meet specific chopping needs. |
HYDROLOC™ AND LENGTH OF CUT ADJUSTMENT
Making cutting adjustments are simple on the FR Forage Harvester and can be made on the move. The reliable Hydroloc™ feedroll drive system allows you to adjust the length of cut to match crop conditions. The optional Dual Drive system allows independent adjustment of header speed and feedroll speed for optimum chopping. |
EASY-TO-USE SHARPENING SYSTEM
A hydraulically controlled sharpening system delivers positive, high-speed knife sharpening. The system can be programmed from the cab in less than a minute and can sharpen both forwards and in reverse. |
INDUSTRY LEADING METALOC™ METAL DETECTION SYSTEM
Superior cutterhead protection is standard, thanks to the Metaloc™ metal detection system. If ferrous metal enters the machine, the system stops the feedrolls in milli-seconds, before damage occurs. With six detections zones, the IntelliView™ monitor shows the operator where the metal is located, to assist in fast removal and allow you to get back to chopping. |
NEW CROP CHANNEL ACCESS
MY15 Forage Cruiser models all have a hydraulic door in the concave area to allow easier cleanout if the machine becomes plugged while harvesting. |
INNOVATIONS - Engine INNOVATION AT EVERY POWER LEVEL With five FR harvester models to choose from, you can pick the precise power level to fit you needs. Reliable in-line six-cylinder FPT engines power the FR450, FR500 and FR600, providing outstanding chopping capacity and fuel economy.
A unique compound turbo engine is used on FR600 to increase engine efficiency. The compound system captures and derives power from exhaust gas, power that would otherwise we lost. Utilizing this system helps the FR600 realize extra fuel savings when compared to competitors at a similar horsepower level. In the FR700, the FR utilizes a Caterpillar C18 engine to deliver 685 horsepower for handling heavy crops.
The largest FR, the FR850, comes equipped with a 824-horsepower FPT Vector V8 engine. This 20-liter monster powerplant delivers over 100 horsepower per cylinder, providing power to handle any crop, anytime, anywhere. |

Four high-intensity discharge (HID) work lights on the cab roof light your way in any direction for great visibility after dark. Plus, side lights, two spout lights and two rear work lights give the operator 360 degrees of illumination to allow safe operation into the night. Egress lighting gives you two minutes of light to climb down the stairs after the machine is shut off, and provides a lighted path to your vehicle. |
INNOVATIONS - Precision Farming Options INTELLIFILL™ AUTOMATIC SPOUT GUIDANCE SYSTEM The award-winning Intellifill™ spout guidance system is now available to automate truck or trailer filling. The tracking system built into Intellifill™ uses a specialized 3D camera mounted under the spout to guide the crop flow into the trailer. The system can guide crop accurately into the trailer no matter the time of day, weather condition, and or trailer type. The NIR (near infra-red) sensors automatically detect the trailer edge and crop mound, allowing the system to work with almost any trailer or truck. |
YIELD MONITORING
Precise yield data is available with this option. Sensors located on the feed roll linkage analyze crop throughput and calculate yield based on crop type and average moisture inputted by the operator. |
MOISTURE SENSING
The moisture sensing system can be installed to give an operator instantaneous and average moisture readings in a variety of crops. When coupled with the yield monitor system, it will provide continuously updated moisture readings to fine tune the yield calculations. The moisture and yield information can also be harnessed to provide variable rate application of crop inoculants from the onboard system. |
MAPPING CAPABILITIES FOR ADVANCED OPERATIONS
With the addition of a GPS antenna and PLM desk-top computer software, the information from the yield and moisture systems can be mapped to provide valuable information to the land owner on how to better manage plant population and fertilizer applications to maximize yield in future years. |
ROW GUIDANCE
Corn headers can be specified with row guidance to keep your FR perfectly on course. Two sensors continuously monitor the position of the crop entering the header, and automatically guide the machine to ensure true perpendicular entry even in poor visibility or at higher ground speeds. |
INNOVATIONS - Serviceability QUICK MAINTENANCE, LONG INTERVALS FR forage harvesters are designed for quick regular servicing. Many of the panels and coverings can easily be removed to provide excellent accessibility to key components. Long service intervals and an automatic greasing system help keep your maintenance time to a minimum. Large, flip-open shields make it easy to reach routine maintenance points. |

For extra wear resistance in extreme operating conditions, opt for the HD crop channel liners. These highly wear resistant parts are coated with a thick layer of chrome carbide that will typically provide 3 to 4 times the life of the standard wear liners. |
AUTOMATIC GREASING SYSTEM
Reducing your service time is the big benefit of the standard quipped Automatic Grease System from Lincoln. The system monitors and delivers accurate levels of grease to almost every point on the harvester (except rotating shafts.) It’s active at all times and works without the need for control. |
AIR COMPRESSOR FOR EASY CLEANING
The FR700 and FR850 come standard with an onboard air compressor. Having this fitted to the harvester allows operators to clean off the machine in the field, reducing build up and providing a clear view for troubleshooting. The onboard compression system is available as an option on all FR450, FR500 and the FR600 forage harvesters. |
HEADERS ANY CROP, ANY TIME, ANY WHERE A wide selection of high-capacity windrow pickup heads, corn headers and row-independent headers make FR harvesters a versatile tool for handling multiple different crops. And a simple header hookup system makes changing them fast and easy. |
EASY-ADJUSTING HEADERS FLOAT OVER FIELDS
The FRs have a standard lateral float feature that allows headers to follow ground contours and protect them from damage. Unlike competitors, the lateral float feature is built into in the forage harvester itself. This enables the lateral float feature on any header, eliminating the need for expensive header tilt features on each individual header.
An optional in-cab hydraulic lateral float system is available. Optional sensor kits are available for larger corn headers to automatically adjust them to ground contours as they help keep a consistent stubble height. |
QUICK, SIMPLE HEADER HOOKUP
Switching between headers is easy. One hydraulic quick-release block can be hooked up even under pressure. The latch system includes a handle, so no tools are needed. The PTO is easy to reach and there is no need to crawl under the machine. |
HEADERS - Corn ROW-INDEPENDENT CORN HEADERS Choose one of six row-independent corn heads to meet your operation’s size requirements. The 8 and 10 row headers are available in both small and large drum options depending on operator preference. Tungsten carbine coated saw blades self-sharpen while tearing through crop to reduce gearbox wear over the life of the header. |
ROW GUIDANCE
Corn headers can be specified with row guidance to keep your FR perfectly on course. Two sensors continuously monitor the position of the crop entering the header, and automatically guide the machine to ensure true perpendicular entry even in poor visibility or at high speeds. |
REDUCE ROT-DOWN TIME WHILE INCREASING TIRE LIFE
The FI series headers are designed to leave the field clean. Special cleaners on the cutting discs also damage the stalks to speed rot-down while protecting tires from stubble damage. |
HEADERS - Wood Chopping WOODY BIOMASS PRODUCTION READY This header transforms the FR Forage Harvester into a single pass, cut-and-chip harvesting system for short-rotation woody crops. The resulting woody biomass is used for the production of biofuels and traditional wood and fiber products. Large, quarter-inch-thick, high speed, carbide-tipped saw blades cut cleanly and quickly through tree trunks. Next, two slow-turning vertical gathering towers feed the severed trunks into the horizontal rolls that, in turn, feed the trunks butt-end first into the massive cutterhead. In addition to working faster than other harvesting methods, the 130FB also leaves clean stubble for maximum regrowth. |
HEADERS - Grass OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN HAY With the all-new 380FP hay pickup, you’ll get smooth, slug-free feeding fom the first windrow to the last. |
SMOOTH FLOW GUARANTEED
The new heavy-duty roller windguard option helps guarantee a smooth, even flow of crop into the feed auger, eliminating any slugs which could lead to plugging. It can be easily adjusted to work with different size windrows. When the feedrolls are reversed, the windguard is automatically raised along with the auger so crop can back all the way out of the header. |
SUPER-FAST PICKUP
Pickup reel speed has been increased vs. prior models for cleaner crop pickup. New reels feature five HD tine bars with heavy support bearings for greater durability and clean-sweep performance. Pickup bands are reinforced to handle heavy windrows without fail, and new internal tine guides prevent damage when the header is reversed. |
HEADERS - Adaptable Attachments In addition to all of the purpose-built headers provided for New Holland Forage Harvesters, additional headers can be adapted to fit the FR to customize your harvesting experience. The chart below lists some of the headers which have been adapted in the past to fit the FR Forage Harvester.
